KitchenAid Accolade 400 Stand Mixer - Review
Like the Artisan series, the Accolade series also holds 5 quarts in it's stainless steel mixing bowl and includes the main accessories of the flat beater, dough hook, wire whip and pouring shield. The other Kitchenaid accessories also fit this stand mixer if you need more. This is a very popular model of stand mixer and you can see by the 4 1/2 star rating from Amazon that customers like this model a lot. One of the main advantages of the Accolade over the more popular Artisan stand mixer is the higher wattage and looks sleeker. It also has a soft start function which is much better for mixing rather than just starting at a higher speed. This ensures less splattering! However the drawbacks of the Accolade 400 is that it can be loud (but I have also noticed that with many of the other stand mixers too - so it is expected) and like all of the other Kitchenaid stand mixers it's very heavy so you need a space on your benchtop to keep it on because you don't want to be taking it in and out of cupboards when you need it. Personally I don't think leaving it on the benchtop is much of a drawback though, because it actually makes me want to use it more rather than having it out of sight out of mind. The mixing bowl is easy to clean and the attachments can be rinsed in warm soapy water and allowed to dry (don't put the metal accessories in the dishwasher - wash them by hand).
